FSSE Disciplinary Area Reports PDF
Looking Within Your FSSE Results
The Disciplinary Area Report delivers your frequency distributions and FSSE Scale scores in up to ten categories of related disciplines. Institutions are encouraged to examine patterns of similarity and difference by discipline among their faculty. Using this report with the NSSE Major Field Report, institutions can add context to their examination of the student experience within different disciplinary areas.
Why Look at Disciplines?
The Disciplinary Area Report informs school- and department-level improvements in teaching and learning. Deans, department chairs, and faculty may not derive much diagnostic value from institution-wide results, but when information for faculty in their school or department can be viewed and compared to other disciplines on campus, it may get more attention.
Downloading the Report
The Disciplinary Area Report will be available for download in the fall. FSSE will contact institutions when their reports have been posted on the NSSE Institution Interface.
Customizing Disciplinary Categories
By default, the Disciplinary Area Report uses ten categories of related disciplines aggregated from 138 faculty-reported disciplines. Institutions have the option to customize these disciplinary groups via an online form as part of report customization. Customization of faculty disciplinary areas can be made independent from or parallel to NSSE major field customization.
While frequencies will be reported for all respondents, FSSE requires at least ten respondents per group for the Disciplinary Area Report Scales and Scale Snapshot. Although this is a minimum requirement, keep in mind that any statistical result requires a sufficient number of respondents per category to produce a reliable estimate.
